Cloverdale

June 25 & 26, 2005

Hi Spo-K9s,

It was off to Cloverdale to show off our stuff.  We enjoy running in Canada and those people sure put on fun tournaments.

Eddi, Puma, Buster, Lacy, Pandy and I want to congratulate Dexter, Scrappy, Holly, Parker, Annie and Rani on a great showing. You all got titles and seemed to have a great time.  I heard many comments about your classy style, reliability and sportsmanship.

And as usual we want to thank several humans for helping to make our trip a success.  Thank you Debbie, John and David for camera work – we look forward to the seeing the photos and tapes; David and Jon for recording stats and to Jon for organizing, analyzing and presenting the stats – without him the other mortals would not have a clue; Debbie, Dorothy and Joyce for the box work; Carolyn and Dorothy for the lunch spread; Carolyn and Jim for line coaching and for each mortal doing their share of duties during the racing. Taylor and David both had birthdays on this trip.  Happy Birthday guys.

The long ride home gave us a chance for lots of interesting canine telepathy.  Here are some of the highlights.  As usual if you face any reprisal for these comments just deny all knowledge and blame me, Maggie, and I will deal with it.

  • We finally left Friday morning and in less than 30 seconds of travel we challenged another vehicle for rights at the first intersection. Holly
  • Maggie and I have always had great travel accommodations in the back seat of the Red Rooster. Then the space was reduced by 30%.  Who decided that Annie could ride with Maggie and Me?  Pandy
  • I should have just eaten him and then we would never again have to put up with the little t---. Parker
  • When I was young I slept with Dad in a small drafty tent.  Then along comes Rani and on her first flyball tournament she sleeps on the 17th floor of the Sheraton Hotel.  What’s that all about????   Lacy
  • Each night after many races my badly needed peace and quiet was disrupted with a loud noisy party – disguised as a stats meeting. Must be a Border collie thing.   Rani
  • Mom was red faced when I went down the left lane and chased the ball over to the right lane and came back on right lane. It was the fastest way back.   Eddi
  • All right, I went – ran perfect runs – put up with the noise and behaved myself.  Now, I want my former life style: on the couch with the cold beer, a cigar and the remote for cable TV.  You can take those tennis balls and stick them!!!   Dexter
  • First Dad stepped on me as I was launching then he fell down as I was returning the ball to him.  Like you Maggie I think it’s time for a new handler.  Lacy
  • I was running hard to achieve fast times and Dad took me for a swim in a cold pool.  Anyone questioning why my times were slower for the next race?  Maggie
  • Holy cow batman, Dad was really mad when I left my crate and decided to see if anyone needed help.  I didn’t cause trouble I was just socializing.   Pandy
  • I thought it was a great pass but they said I had to rerun.  When I ran to the box the second time Joyce had not placed the ball in the hole.  I decided to stop and stare at the box and Joyce for about ten seconds just to embarrass her.  Annie
  • I thought I would test Dad’s mood early in the morning so I peed in the corridor while waiting for the elevator. Turned out to be a bad way to start the day.  Lacy
  • Even though I would rather be lounging around the house, I am starting to enjoy flyball.  What is happening to my pride as a Golden show dog?  Parker
  • Mom launched me and said go, go, go.  I thought she was saying no, no, no.  So I returned to her and then got benched.  How can I be expected to hear clearly with all that noise? How about a different command?   Scrappy
  • Mom kept a key from the hotel.  I hope she only wanted a souvenir and is not becoming a thief.  She said that she forgot to turn it in – yeah right.  Rani
  • Eddi said that my starting times sucked.  So I kept jumping and head butting Mom until she changed to a proper launching style.  Sorry for your fat lip.  Holly
  • Each night Taylor would take me into a nice big lobby at the hotel, then into an elevator with the two silver doors.  It would rumble and shake and I felt the need to lie down on the floor to be safe.  Couldn’t we have rented the lobby and not the room and organized our own all night fly ball tournament? Annie
  • The doors of the elevator opened and there stood two well-dressed pretty ladies facing me, a young pretty Spo-K9, and an old country bumpkin.  I am sure their disbelief and displeasure was directed at the old country bumpkin.  Maggie
  • Mom and Dad told Kenneth to be very polite to the room guests and then they tolerated the antics of the least civilized people I have ever seen.  Rani
  • Rumor has it that mom was squirting water from a window on the 17th floor at Taylor and David swimming in the pool below.  Please tell me it’s not true.  Eddi
  • Did you all see me nose in to the box?  Mom thought I had misjudged the distance as I approached the box.  Wrong.  I was actually trying to get my rear end up in the air and moon Mom  Buster
  • I have run two full tournaments, practiced twice a week, played Frisbee with the Skyhounds and then Mom pulled me from the race so I would be rested for the Agility trial next weekend.  Nonsense, I can run several tournaments and still beat all those non-Flyball dogs at agility with one paw tied behind my back.  Eddi
  • Mom may have enjoyed flying to Canada in a small plane this weekend but frankly I found it boring. I will refuse to get on the plane next time unless I can sit in the left front seat.  Puma
  • Can you believe my start times?  Mom would launch me and I would vary my running speed to assure that my start time would be .003 or faster. I even got some .000 starts and mom took all the credit. I sure make her look good.  Eddi
  • Where were Colonial Merry, and our good friends Justin, Eileen and Ric? We missed you guys. Eileen, mom is still looking for just the right Border-Jack, just be patient.   Maggie

Again, great job future flyers you were awesome.

Maggie

p.s.   Start whining NOW to assure that we get to go again soon.
