Dear Canine teammates,

Now that we are back from the fly ball tournament in BC its time to record the thoughts we shared during our return trip.  Thanks for the canine telepathic interaction.  It made the trip home interesting and fun.

Before we get to the fun things we must thank Jon our statistical wizard; Debbie our master box handler; Carolyn and Dorothy our Chefs; Debbie our outstanding photographer and of course Colonial Merry.  Thanks to all of you.

Now for the memories:

  • We worked very hard all winter on our techniques and it helped our racing in BC.  We started with competitive times, and then ran faster and faster and faster and then – opps – everybody was upset.  Would someone explain “breakout” to us.  Eddi - Team Captain  (I know – Patty thinks she was captain but we know who was the real leader)
  • Saturday Dad fed me a big breakfast then Mom fed me a second large breakfast and they wondered why I could not run faster than 5 seconds.  Isn’t someone else interested in running me in the future?  Maggie
  • Following a post race meeting we prepared for the next race.  I planned to run third but Mom launched me second.  About the second hurdle I heard what I thought was a steam locomotive coming.  I looked back and saw Puma about to run over me.  I prayed for divine intervention.  Thank goodness Puma is kind.  Buster
  • Every time Dad launched me I heard a loud “OH NO” followed by a loud slap.  Later I learned that Dad was slapping his head and pulling his hair.  He better change that behavior since he is rapidly loosing his few remaining hairs.  Pandy
  • Saturday night I was lying on the floor when I heard a loud POP.  Soon I learned that it was Mom breaking another crock-pot.  Holly
  • Mom kept bringing me soup bowls to lick.  It was a nice gesture but they were all empty.  Would you people start leaving a little more in the bottom of the bowl so it’s worth my effort. Puma
  • Could anybody tell me if Dad was not paying attention or was he really sleeping when he failed to launch me? I tried to get away but couldn’t.  Lacy
  • I sure missed Justin’s massage especially when I had a leg cramp.  Maggie
  • I have been working very hard on focusing my efforts - but it just wasn’t fair when Mom let that pigeon clean up the breadcrumbs right in front of my crate.  Did she forget that I am a bird dog first and a fly ball dog second?  Rani
  • I almost wet the floor when Merry and Mom laid down on the hide-a-bed and it folded up pinning them in the mattress.  Holly
  • I hear that Mom may not be allowed to make the Motel reservations in the future unless she stops negotiating price before they remove hot water from the agreement. Maggie
  • Jim said that I almost lost the tournament for the team.  He said when I started 40 ft back and ran my fastest times ever it caused us to break out.  Well too bad – It’s my new strategy and I’m going to continue it. Eddi - Team captain
  • I sure was nervous when Eddi hurt her foot and I had to fill in.  I ran my best times ever.  Boy that felt good!!!  Puma
  • The fly ball tournaments allow me to catch up on my naps.  Parker
  • It is a long two days when you don’t get to run with the team.  I know – I am just a young and up coming dog.  Scrappy
  • I was trying to think of ways to further improve my times and guess what – I saw the butter on the lunch table.  It stands to reason that eating butter would cause slick fur and better aerodynamics.  Mom didn’t understand my reasoning.  Eddi  Team Capitan
  • Did you all notice the tournament noise level reduced as Merry and Mom lost their voices?  Maggie
  • I wish I could stop trembling every time Merry looks at me.   Pandy
  • I heard rumors that Dexter is being considered for fly ball training.  Guess I better take my training seriously or I will continue to be a spectator.  Parker
  • Thank goodness our trip included only one road rage incident.  Rani & Lacy

And finally I noticed all my team fellow members fighting back tears as we proudly stood for pictures as the FIRST PLACE TEAM.

Maggie

Ps: Remember now is the time to start whining to attend the next tournament!!!!
